of 20 to 17. The game was a roller-coaster ride of emotions for Wildcat fans
as one player is transported to the hospital and a priceless victory is added
to the "W" column. It was the third Centreville game in row decided
by just 3-points, and this time on the right side of the scoreboard.

What about Cam?
After a high impact noggin-crusher in the third quarter, Cam
Dohse was transported
to Fairfax Hospital. The Washington Post quotes Coach
Wheelbarger saying Cam
is "up and walking around."
Monday Update: Cam
Dohse is fine - eating french fries for lunch.
A Slow Start
The Saturday evening was sunny, crisp, with a sporadic breeze blowing from west to east. The field was a bit messy, and way-stinky, still recovering from the soaking of the previous week. Centreville received the kick and quickly turned the ball over to Robinson on downs. The first offensive play by the Rams took the ball across the goal line with a quick run around the right-side. The extra point was good putting Robinson on the scoreboard first, 0 to 7. The teams then took turns taking possession and punting the ball. Wheels were spinning in the muddy field until the Rams kicked the ball between the uprights for a field goal, adding three points to the board and making the score 0 to 10. Wondering where our Wildcats are? Not to worry - here they come!
That's A Nice Tip
The Centreville offense shook-off any jitters and started to play their favorite flavor of football: intense. Wildcats found more success running the ball with the talents of Andrew Morgan and Brandon Davis than in the air. That's fine—whatever works. The next play caused the Centreville bleachers to fill their lungs with a gasp just in time to holler in celebration, as Drew Dudzik sent a pass toward Cam Dohse, but it hit the hands of two Robinson defenders. But it didn't stop there - the pass was tipped by two Ram defenders and into the grasp of Dohse, who stayed one-step ahead of the Rams right into the west end zone for 6 points. Matt Spencer's success with the extra point ended the first quarter with a score of Centreville 7, Robinson 10.
The second quarter belonged to the Wildcats. Robinson moved the ball down the field and into position for a field goal, but the kick was no good - wide to the right. Each team takes a turn with the ball, but must punt in the end. Then Centreville starts another intense drive. The Wildcat offense moves the ball down the field in the air and on the ground. With 30-seconds left in the first half the gridiron drama increases. An incomplete pass into the end zone leads to Dudzik running a keeper to the one yard line. Next play is a spike to the ground to stop the clock at 13-seconds. Then a quarterback sneak up the middle for a Wildcat touchdown. The extra point didn't quite make it, but the score is now in Centreville's favor, 13 to 10. Wildcats kick a squibber to the Rams, giving them one offensive play as time ran out for the first half. Folks, we've got a football game on our hands!
Where's The Parrot… And The Band?
The homecoming half-time festivities went quickly. They seemed a bit odd,
since the Wildcat Marching Band was nowhere to be found. Still, the Wildcat
Dancing Team took the field and put on a show as intense as the football action.
They were followed by Mr. Noonan and the SGA
Board, who welcomed each of the
homecoming princesses. After introductions, the Senior attendants played a
game of find the parrot - and Sarah Langan did exactly that! As she unwrapped
the flowers in her hand, a cute little stuffed (yes, stuffed - don't be morbid)
parrot appeared. Sarah was the homecoming queen!
The homecoming festivities wrapped-up. Sarah Langan adjusted her new tiara, and the fans waited for the teams to return to the field. The score was a whispered-goal for many Wildcat fans—what a treat it would be to go into half time with a lead over Robinson. That would send a nice message. And it came true! Everyone knew to expect a mighty challenge in the second half. Little did Centreville know the emotional highs and lows that awaited.
That One Hurt
Battle in the third quarter continued. Robinson had been hitting hard all day. And it hurt. Cam Dohse had possession of the ball, moving up the middle and collided with Ram defenders. He was down, and hurt, and was transported to Fairfax Hospital. As we mentioned earlier, The Washington Post quotes Coach Wheelbarger saying Cam is "up and walking around." Robinson was able to take the ball into the end zone, making the score at the end of the third quarter in Robinson's favor, 13 to 17.
3-Point Curse?
Sparked by thoughts of their downed teammate, Wildcats took the field and a deep, fourth-quarter breath and focused on one thing - victory. Centreville worked the ball to the 9-yard line. Was anyone on the Centreville side of the stadium breathing? I doubt it. Just a bit more than two minutes left on the clock, and Drew Dudzik launches the ball to the left side of the end zone. It's crowded in there, but one guys is wide open—T.J. Denby. The ball settles nicely into Denby's grasp and a Wildcat touchdown. Spencer's extra point is good and the Wildcats take the lead with a score of 20 to 17.
Robinson had one more opportunity, ended by a fourth-down sack by Jason Salter. Centreville then took possession of the ball and simply ran out the clock. The 2005 Homecoming game ends with a Wildcat victory over the Robinson Rams with a score of 20 to 17. It was another Wildcat game decided by 3-points, this time in the Wildcats favor.
