Flingin’ in the Rain Over Fairfax 62 to 14

Wildcats Sizzle in the Drizzle

Updated October 31 2005

Varsity Wildcats traveled to Harold Stalnaker Stadium to visit the Fairfax Rebels on a drizzly Friday evening and proceeded to ravage the Rebels toward a final score of 62 to 14. Centreville looked sharp with a game of quick and meticulous football. Fairfax had their moments, but there weren't many fans there to bear witness. The cold and squishy weather diluted the number of fans in attendance, and Centreville fans numbered as many as the home team.

We Have Stats

Apologies for the delay, but now we have game stats ready for you. Click to jump to the stats table on this page.

The artificial turf was wet and glistening as Centreville took the field. Fairfax received the kick-off to get things rolling, but accomplished nothing. Wildcats quickly took possession of the ball and the scoreboard, scoring their first touchdown after only two minutes and forty seconds of game time. Centreville was quick, as they sent Andrew Morgan across the goal line to put the first 6 points on the board. The slippery extra point just missed the target leaving the score at 6 to 0.

Wildcats kicked the ball to Fairfax, who then fumbled it. Centreville recovered and again took possession and control of the game. After a quick carry the next play sent Brandon Williams into the end zone for a reception and touch down, sliding on his back past the goal line. Drew Dudzik then carried the ball for a 2-point conversion, cranking the score up to 14 to 0. Only 38 seconds of time had passed on the game clock since the first touchdown, as the scoreboard displayed 8:42 remaining in the first quarter.

Centreville again kicked the ball to Fairfax. This time the ball landed on the turf with a splash and was downed at the 20 yard line. The Rebels were losing their jitters, as they worked the ball downfield toward one huge pass that resulted in a Fairfax touch down. With seven minutes and 19 seconds still on the clock for the first quarter, the score is now 14 to 7 with Wildcats in the lead. Never again would the score be this close.

Don't blink! Because it took the Wildcats just 73 seconds of game time to send Cam Dohse into the end zone after grabbing a precision pass from Dudzik. Scott Behne's extra point hit the mark and the score was 21 to 7 with just over six minutes left in the first quarter.

Wildcats kicked the ball nice and deep into Rebel territory, where Fairfax started a methodical drive. Their progress was in small increments, requiring the chain gang to enter the field, chains dragging and splashing across the wet turf, to measure the progress. Just as the Rebels gained a bit of momentum, sophomore Donnell Carpenter intercepted a Fairfax pass to give Wildcats possession of the ball. This started Centreville's longest possession of the game with a combination of passing and running that took them (finally!) to the end of the first quarter. The first quarter ended with a score of Wildcats 21, Fairfax 7, and Centreville maintaining possession of the ball.

Only eighteen seconds into the second quarter Drew Dudzik ran a keeper into the end zone, followed by Behne's successful extra point, and tweaking the scoreboard to read 28 to 7. Those poor cheerleaders are on the wet Fairfax track pumping those arms for another 28 push-ups.

Centreville kicks the ball to Fairfax, who keep the ball on the ground for their next series of plays. But that didn't last long, as they fumble the ball into the hands of Colin Miller to again give the Wildcats possession.

We warned you—don't blink! With 9:45 left on the clock for the second quarter, Dudzik gets the ball into the hands of Cam Dohse for a run up the right-side of the field and into the end zone. Another Wildcat touchdown with Behne's extra point makes the score 35 to 7.

Fairfax grabs the Wildcat kick and starts working the ball across the wet field. Again, they keep things on the ground... wait a minute—Wildcat cheerleaders are still doing push-ups. Let's give them a minute... ok, nice job, ladies. That makes a total of 104 push-ups... so far. Hope they had their Wheaties today. Anyway, Fairfax has the ball, running it play after play. They end their drive with a tricky reverse with a 70-yard run and a touch down. The Rebel extra point is good, making the score 35 to 14 with 6:09 left in the first half.

Brandon Davis grabs the Fairfax kick and runs the ball to the 47 yard line. A series of Wildcat runs and passes end up sending Davis up the middle and into the end zone. Behne toes a pretty extra point to make the score 41 to 14. Behne also took a hit, with a flag on Fairfax for roughing the passer. Just a bit more than four minutes on the clock and Fairfax receives the kick, and immediately incurs a loss for their prior penalty.

This Rebel drive ends with a punt back to Centreville. Wildcats put the ball into action with their air attack. As usual, when clock begins to tick-away, the Wildcats get your heart going. After six successful passes, a couple of runs, Dudzik attempts a quick run around the right-side and into the end zone. He is hit, fumbles the ball, and ends-up with the recovery after a quick scramble of blue and white jerseys. The clock tells us there are just seven seconds left in the first half and the ball is on the four-yard line. Hearts are pounding as Dudzik sends one into the air above the end zone and the grip of Van Chew - touch down Centreville! Another extra point confidently booted by Behne makes the score 49 to 14 with two seconds remaining on the clock. Wildcats kick a little squibber to Fairfax, which provides them nothing. At the end of the first half Wildcats are firmly in the lead with a score of 49 to 14.

Wildcat fans pass the half-time break chatting about the difference in the quick Centreville offense compared to the more methodical Rebel strategy. Then a buzz starts moving through the crowd (ok, it's a sparse crowd, but still...) about the Robinson v Oakton game. Word is that Robinson is in the lead with a score of 24 to 7. Not really what we want to hear, but that's the way it goes.

The second half begins with Centreville receiving the kick. Wildcats start orchestrating another successful drive, this time entirely on the ground. Ryan Fischer and Brandon Davis are getting a workout on-foot, ultimately leading to a big run down the right-side and into the end zone by Brandon Williams. The extra point is blocked leaving the score at 55 to 14. The arms of Wildcat cheerleaders are growing bigger, and the fans in the Fairfax bleachers are growing thinner.

Fairfax can't do anything with their next possession and punt the ball to the Wildcats. After running the ball six times Centreville hands the ball back to the Rebels on downs. Fairfax can't get any traction on the slippery astro-turf, and must punt the ball back to Centreville. Thus ends the third quarter of play with the lead firmly in the Wildcats' grip, 55 to 14.

Centreville's Van Chew is leading the Wildcats down the field keeping the ball close to the ground. A big pass to T.J. Denby puts Centreville in scoring position. Chew hands the ball to Ryan Fischer and he muscles the ball very close to the goal line, but not quite there. Next play, same plan, but with Fischer blasting into the end zone. Behne's kick cranks the score up to 62 to 14 with six minutes and fifty seconds left in the game.

Another fruitless Fairfax drive and Wildcats take possession on downs. With 1:27 left in the game, Centreville simply runs plays to run out the clock. The game ends with another win for the Wildcats and a final score of 62 to 14.

Photos for the No-Shows

Since the weather was drizzly, it wasn't a great night for a (short) road trip to a football game. Our cold-and-wet toes understand. Since we know you wanted to be there, here's a huge gallery of photos from the Wildcat victory at Fairfax. Many thanks to Tammi Duble for braving the soggy conditions, and her equipment, to bring us this great collection of pics! Click here to enjoy the show… But wait! There's more—we have a new gallery with a bunch more photos from the Fairfax game. Click here to see Gallery 2.
