Centreville Beats West Potomac 53 to 16

Mercy, Win, Repeat...

Published September 22 2006

Centreville defeats West Potomac 53 to 6

Varsity Wildcats hosted the West Potomac Wolverines for a Thursday night of football, as Centreville emerged victorious with a final score of 53 to 16. For the third week in a row, the Wildcats gave the new "mercy rule" a workout. The first official evening of Fall was clear and crisp, with temperatures feeling like football weather. The sound system at Trussell Stadium was sounding crisp and powerful. Folks report listening to the game from a quarter-mile away as the Wildcats handled the Wolverines.

Game Stats!

Sorry about the delay - had a little technical difficulty to resolve. Click here to see game stats! We have published 'year to date' stats - click this to see those. Stay tuned for statistics from past games - coming soon!

Things started fast. Wildcats wallop the Wolverines with 13 points on the scoreboard just half-way through the first quarter of regulation time. It was a bit of Centreville "shock and awe" for the squad from West Potomac. Even more shocking is another Wildcat touchdown after just three more minutes ticked-away on the clock. Offense scores quicklyNow the score is Centreville 19, West Potomac zero with 2:31 still remaining in the first quarter. The Wildcat offense was stunning, with running and twirling touchdowns by Centreville players such as Nick Basalyga, Brandon Williams, and Brandon Davis.

The Wolverines did come to play. They put 6 points on the board, but the Wildcats are relentless. Play continues into the second quarter, and now the score is Centreville 25 to West Potomac's 6. Plenty of time in the first half, as the clock says 9:17 remaining in quarter two of the game. Given the pace of this game, you are surprised to discover the time has ticked-away and the teams enter half time with the score Centreville 25, West Potomac 6.

Do It Again

The third quarter of the game started like the first. Just two minutes and 39 seconds into the second half of the game and Centreville's Steven Bisaga crosses the scoreboard-side goal line for another Wildcat touchdown. That boosts the score to Centreville 32 and West Potomac 6 with 9:21 left to play in the third quarter.

Forcing a fumbleThe Wildcat defense was overpowering the Wolverine offense all night. In the next series Tommy Dorrzapf and James McClendon force a fumble that Centreville carries back for a touchdown. Now the score is 38 to 6. Wildcat fans help the cheerleaders muscle their way through another round of push-ups.

West Potomac is still in the game. They find a way across the goal line, changing the scoreboard to read 38 to 14. The Wildcats respond by taking advantage of a Wolverine miscue and sending Andrew Morgan into the end zone for another Centreville touchdown. The two-point conversion by Brandon Davis is good, and with 4:55 still in the third quarter, the score is Centreville 46, West Potomac 14.

Centreville defense seems to get bigger, faster and stronger as the seconds tick-away on the clock. Key tackles by Anthony DeConti, Donnell Carpenter, Shemar Woods, and Darryl Hamilton prevent West Potomac from gaining any traction on the gridiron turf.

Third Mercy in the Third

Defense does their job and the Centreville offense again takes the field. Seven plays later Steven Bisaga again crosses the goal line for a Wildcat touchdown. With just 1:50 left in the third quarter, the extra point is good, the score is boosted to Centreville 53, West Potomac 14. The score forces activation of the new "mercy rule" for the third Wildcat game, in a row, this season.

West Potomac takes advantage of a situation and adds two points to their score. With the "mercy rule" activated the rest of the game just flies-by. Zip zip zip and the game ends with a Centreville Wildcat "mercy rule" victory over the West Potomac Wolverines, 53 to 16.
