Season kicks off with a shut-out
Wildcats Beat Woodson
Published September 2 2006
Centreville traveled to Woodson High School to meet the Cavaliers in the first regular season game. Wildcats dominated the entire evening and traveled home with a 'win' and a final score of 43 to 0.
The Ernesto Scramble
The game was played a day early because of threatening weather. The remnants of hurricane Ernesto were scheduled to enter Virginia on Friday, and that would make for one soggy and windy football game. Kudos to the Directors of Student Activities at both schools for rescheduling the game and allowing the season to get started.

The evening started at Pat Cunningham Stadium with overcast conditions and a bit of "mizzle" (misty drizzle) in the air. The weather did not dampen spirits with the Centreville players and fans, as both were anxious to get this highly anticipated season into gear. Wildcat defense has been working and training hard for months, and last night showed the results. The frustrated Woodson offense never crossed the goal line. Centreville's defense was focused and did their job.
The Centreville offense was a treat to watch. With more than eleven minutes
left to play in the first quarter, Wildcats had an 8 to zero lead. Don't
blink, because their not done yet!
Just
96 seconds later and Centreville pushes the score up to 15 to zero. Speaking
of training hard for months, are the cheerleaders ready for all those push-ups?
Looks like it, as they never hesitated to hit the deck and count-off each
point after a touchdown.
Another first-quarter offensive drive by the Wildcats boosts the score to 22 to zero with another three minutes and sixteen seconds still to play in the first quarter. But wait, there's more! Centreville inaugurates the second-quarter with a touchdown and successful extra point, advancing their lead to 29 to zero. Hold onto your seats, as another quick drive sends the Wildcats into the end zone refreshing the scoreboard to read 36 to zero. Of course you'd like to catch your breath, but there's no time! With six minutes and six seconds still to play in the first half of the game, Centreville maneuvers the ball into the end zone again, and a high-altitude score of 43 to zero.
Then calm settled on the field. Both teams completed their half time break and returned to the field. The second half of the game remained scoreless for both teams. Wildcats completed their first regular season game with a 43 to zero victory over the Woodson Cavaliers.
